How to Use AI CV Resumes
6/27/2025
The General-First Workflow
AI CV Resumes works best in this order:
- Build a reusable career profile by entering or importing contact information, experience, education, projects, and links.
- Generate the general resume intended for most applications.
- Save a job posting only when you need a cover letter, application or interview answers, or a genuinely necessary Tailored Resume.
This approach keeps your career history stable while letting you change emphasis for the smaller number of roles that require it.
Dashboard and Navigation
Begin on the dashboard. The setup checklist shows two essentials for document generation: valid contact information and at least one valid career-background record. Other recommendations are optional.
The main navigation includes:
- Dashboard for setup guidance and account information
- Applications for optional saved job postings
- Cover Letters for saved cover letters
- Education, Projects, and Work Experience for career records
- General Resume for the resume used across most applications
- User Profile for optional voice guidance used in application answers
- Subscription for paid-access information
Import Resume is an action rather than another permanent navigation item. You can find it on the dashboard, setup checklist, career-record pages, and General Resume page.
Build and Maintain Your Career Profile
Import and Review an Existing Resume
Choose Import Resume, then upload one text-based PDF or DOCX up to 4 MiB. The original file is processed transiently through Vercel and sent directly to OpenAI for extraction. AI CV Resumes does not store that file in its database or object storage and does not create a persistent OpenAI Files object. Provider abuse-monitoring retention rules may still apply.
Free accounts receive three parsing attempts per rolling 24-hour window. Files that fail local type, signature, emptiness, or size validation do not reserve an attempt. Readable, unreadable, refused, or structurally invalid model results count; selected provider outages, timeouts, authentication, billing, and upstream rate-limit failures restore the reserved attempt. Active paid and approved accounts have no free-feature parsing quota, subject to reasonable service, security, technical-capacity, and fair-use safeguards.
The review lets you:
- Keep saved contact fields while selectively using imported suggestions
- Edit and include or exclude professional links and career records
- Move records among Work Experience, Education, and Projects
- Change an Education record between Degree and Certification
- Categorize or exclude ambiguous records before saving
- Explicitly import a likely duplicate when you really want another copy
The importer preserves the wording and date granularity it extracts instead of rewriting claims. Unsupported sections such as summaries, standalone skills, languages, interests, and references remain read-only. Saving creates approved records together in one transaction and never updates or deletes existing career records.
Contact Information
Add the name and email you want displayed on generated documents. Phone number, city and state, portfolio, LinkedIn, and additional links are optional. Keep this information accurate because the renderer uses these saved identity fields directly.
Work Experience
Add each relevant role with its employer, title, location, dates, and factual details and responsibilities. Include supported outcomes and tools where they matter. You can view, edit, search, and delete saved entries.
Education
Add degrees, certifications, and other education records with their labels, institutions, types, and dates. The generator selects records from this source instead of rewriting their identity fields.
Projects and Additional Links
Projects are optional, but they can demonstrate skills that do not appear in a job title. Add a clear description and the tools you actually used. Additional links can point to a portfolio, GitHub profile, or another relevant public resource.
Your General Resume
Go to General Resume after the essential setup items are ready, then choose Generate General Resume.
Use this resume for most applications. It selects strong recent and transferable material from your saved career profile without relying on a job posting. Review the preview, copy the text, or download a Word document or PDF.
The general resume is not part of either saved-document quota and can be regenerated without a subscription. You should usually regenerate it only when your career information changes. If only one unusual role needs different emphasis, keep the general resume stable and create a Tailored Resume for that application instead.
Importing career information does not automatically change or mark an existing general resume stale. Regenerate it yourself after reviewing the saved import when you are ready to incorporate the new records.
Applications
Applications are optional. Add one when you need a cover letter, an occasional Tailored Resume, or saved application and interview answers.
Choose Add Application and enter:
- Company Name and Job Title
- Job Description and Responsibilities by copying and pasting the posting
- An optional application link
- Optional hiring-manager name and title
The application details record stores the copied job description and
responsibilities together; there is no separate responsibilities field.
After saving, the application page shows independent actions for Generate Tailored Resume and Generate Cover Letter. You can generate either document without generating the other.
Generate a Tailored Resume
Use your general resume by default. Choose Generate Tailored Resume only when a posting creates a real need to change wording or emphasis—for example, when two parts of your supported background are relevant but the role clearly prioritizes one.
Tailoring sends these categories to the AI provider:
- Your saved contact, experience, education, project, skill, and link records
- The saved company and role title
- The saved job description and responsibilities, including stated qualifications and priorities
The posting is used as a relevance guide, not as evidence that you have a qualification. Unsupported requirements, technologies, achievements, and responsibilities must be omitted. When the posting or candidate records do not support meaningful customization, the result should remain close in substance to a strong general resume.
The tailored-generation callout is advisory, not a block. It links back to your general resume and reminds you that regeneration for the same application does not create another saved record.
Generate a Cover Letter
Choose Generate Cover Letter when an application calls for one. The cover letter uses the same saved application and candidate information but has its own generation action, preview, downloads, and saved-record quota.
A cover letter does not require a Tailored Resume, and generating one does not change the number of Tailored Resumes you can keep.
Saved Tailored Resumes and Cover Letters
Application-specific resume records are labeled Tailored Resumes throughout the application. Open a saved document to preview, copy, or download it.
You can choose Regenerate Tailored Resume or Regenerate Cover Letter for the same application without deleting the existing document first. The saved record is replaced in place, so regeneration does not consume another quota slot.
Delete a document only when you no longer want to keep it. Deleting a saved Tailored Resume or cover letter frees one slot in that document’s quota. Deleting an application can also remove its related materials, so review confirmation messages carefully.
Free-Plan Quotas and Paid Access
Free accounts may keep:
- Up to 20 saved Tailored Resumes
- Up to 20 saved cover letters
The limits are independent. Nineteen Tailored Resumes and 20 cover letters, for example, still leave one Tailored Resume slot. Users who already have more than 20 of either document can regenerate an existing one but cannot create another of that type until they subscribe or fall below the cap.
The general resume remains unmetered. Active paid and approved access removes the free saved-document and resume-parsing quotas, subject to the service’s reasonable security, technical-capacity, and fair-use safeguards.
Application and Interview Questions
From an application-specific document page, open Application/Interview Questions. A valid User Profile is required because its tone and writing preferences guide these answers. Enter one to ten questions, review the generated answers, and verify every factual claim before using them.
Question answers are separate from the Tailored Resume and cover-letter quotas.
Review Every Generated Document
The service uses structured generation and deterministic rendering to constrain documents to your saved source records, but AI output can still be incomplete or wrong. You are responsible for reviewing each result and confirming that it accurately represents your experience before submitting it.
